Open House Season Brings Families Together

Open House Season Brings Families Together
Krista Kerber

With each school in District 401 hosting their own version of either Open House or Curriculum Night, the first few weeks of September were both busy and exciting for our community.

There was an impressive turnout to all four events held, as families were thrilled to have the chance to meet teachers, explore classrooms, and get a glimpse into their child’s day-to-day experiences. From colorful art displays to the lively sounds of music rooms and the buzz of activity in the gyms, each school gave families a true window into student life. The schools also organized engaging activities like scavenger hunts, as well as passport checklists—stamping off spots as they explored around the school! Families even had the chance to take home free books—another way to celebrate learning together. Each event was truly remarkable, as the atmosphere in our buildings was filled with tons of energy and positivity.

One parent at the John Mills event, Elena Addante, shared how it felt like a full-circle moment—having once walked those halls as a student herself. Now, she gets to watch her daughters in first and second grade do the same. She was excited to see a few of her former teachers, noting, “They all remembered me!” and went on to explain how important Open House is. “I think it’s good to get to know the layout of the school and meet everybody that’s here. You can get quick input about what's going on with the students and what their routines are. That way you can stay on track with everything."

Please enjoy these fun videos from the elementary schools' open house events, where our team followed families to capture their personalized experiences.

It was so nice to see families connecting with staff to view firsthand what their children have been working on. We're loving the essence of the 2025-26 school year so far, and can't wait to keep that momentum going throughout the year!

Don't forget to take a look at the SmugMug Photo Galleries of each event!
