John Mills Elementary Celebrates Michael Swiderski as a National Math Star

John Mills Elementary Celebrates Michael Swiderski as a National Math Star
Krista Kerber

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! Michael Swiderski, a 4th grade student at John Mills, has been selected for National Math Stars’ 2025 cohort.

National Math Stars is a multi-state program that identifies students with exceptional math talent and provides them with ten years’ worth of support to accelerate their education. Each year, thousands of 2nd and 3rd grade students are nominated, but only a small fraction are chosen for this special opportunity.

We’re so proud that one of our very own has earned one of these coveted spots! Michael was nominated by Amy Fishman, John Mills’ Enrichment Teacher. Through Michael’s hard work and love for learning, paired with Amy’s dedication and guidance, this achievement became possible. Together, their efforts represent the kind of collaboration that helps our students reach new heights. We’re grateful to Amy—and to all of the teachers, school administrators, parents, and community members—who have helped Michael shine so brightly.

As a National Math Star, Michael will receive:

  • Long-term support from now through high school at no cost to the family

  • Weekly one-on-one math mentoring

  • Advanced math learning opportunities

  • STEM enrichment materials and opportunities

  • Invitations to math competitions and summer camps

Please join us in celebrating Michael for his curiosity, perseverance, and passion for math. We know this is just the beginning of an incredible journey!
