This section provides an overview of how John Mills Elementary School assesses and reinforces the academic development of our students through homework, grading and testing.

District 401's elementary school instruction is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics, and with the Illinois Learning Standards in our other subject areas.

In addition to the standards-based grading they receive during the course of their regular classes, John Mills students also take several standardized tests a year to monitor their progress.

Elm Middle School assesses and reinforces the academic development of our students through grading, testing and the application of well-established standards.

Our evidence-based instructional practices are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics, and with the Illinois Learning Standards in all other subject areas.

Student progress in daily coursework is assessed according to a carefully constructed grading system that measures academic growth and proficiency.

In addition to the assessment given during the course of their regular classes, Elm students also take several standardized tests a year to monitor their progress, such as the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for grades 6-8 and the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) for grade 8.

Elmwood Park High School assesses and reinforces the academic development of our students through grading, testing and the application of well-established standards.

Our evidence-based instructional practices are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts and mathematics, and with the Illinois Learning Standards in our other subject areas.

Student progress in daily coursework is assessed according to a carefully constructed grading system that assigns different weights to Advanced Placement, honors and regular classes. 

In addition, our students take several required standardized tests at different points in their high school careers to monitor their academic progress. Students preparing for post-secondary education are also encouraged to take the ACT, SAT and/or AP exams.
