Business
The Business Department of Elmwood Park High School offers courses in a variety of subjects that prepare students for high-skill, high-demand occupations in the business world.
These subjects include accounting, marketing, computer science and information processing, as well as foundational courses in business principles and digital literacy.
Students may also delve more deeply into computer technology with classes on computer graphics, digital animation and website design.
In addition, the department's Consumer Education course meets the State of Illinois requirement for providing consumer education instruction to public high school students.
Putting Knowledge to Work
Juniors and seniors who have satisfied a two-credit prerequisite in business education have the option of putting their knowledge to work by enrolling in the department's capstone course, Virtual Enterprise International (VEI).
The class provides a simulated business environment in which students create and manage a virtual company, conducting business with other virtual firms nationally and internationally.
Students are involved in every aspect of running the business, including human resources, accounting, product development, production, distribution, marketing and sales. In the simulated business environment, students belong to a specific department depending on skills, prior knowledge and personal interest.
